Mylar® Polyester Film Solutions for Food Packaging
Mylar® polyester film is a premium BOPET based material used in food packaging where sealing performance, product protection, temperature resistance, clarity and food safety compliance are essential.
HIFI Polyester Film supplies Mylar® packaging films from the 850, OL and RL ranges, helping manufacturers and converters select the right solution for their tray material, sealing process, temperature exposure and consumer opening requirements.
The Mylar® 850 range is designed for permanent sealing and is compatible with APET/CPET trays, APET-coated board, PVC, PVdC, paper and aluminium. It is particularly suitable for lidding APET/CPET trays and dual-ovenable ready meal applications. It also offers aroma barrier properties for products where flavour or fragrance protection is important.
The Mylar® OL range is designed for peelable sealing and can seal to materials including APET, CPET, PETG, polyester-coated board, polycarbonate and PVC. It is designed to be self-venting and dual-ovenable, making it especially relevant for ready meal applications where easy opening is required.
The Mylar® RL range uses an EVA heat seal layer and is designed to provide a peelable seal to a wide range of materials, including polypropylene, polystyrene, polyethylene, APET, CPET, PVC and PVdC. It is particularly useful where a smooth peel is required, especially in chilled or frozen applications.
For retail food packaging, selected Mylar® films can include anti-fog functionality, helping reduce condensation on transparent lidding films and improving product visibility in chilled, frozen or high-humidity environments. Mylar® 850AF, Mylar® OL anti-fog versions and Mylar® RL52AF are specifically referenced as anti-fog options.
For printed packaging, selected grades can offer improved printability through treated surfaces. Mylar® OLT uses corona treatment for improved ink adhesion, while other related grades use chemical treatment depending on the film family and required print performance.
